Q: How much does Seen cost? Are these calls really free?
A: Seen is entirely free to use — there are no charges for installing the app, or for placing or receiving voice or video calls. However, depending on your plan with the mobile operator, you may be charged when using Seen on 3G, especially if roaming internationally.
Q: Can I prevent Seen from using 3G?
A: Seen currently uses 3G only if Wi-Fi is unavailable, and will not start using it unexpectedly mid-call.
Q: How do I know if I'm on 3G or Wi-Fi?
A: (iPhone) - To find out your data connection, look at the icon next to your mobile operator's name in the top left corner of your iPhone screen. If you are on Wi-Fi, you will see a symbol showing radiating radio waves depending on quality of signal. If you are on 3G (typically slower than Wi-Fi), you will see a '3G' symbol. If you are on EDGE (typically slower than 3G), you will see an 'E' symbol. If you are on GPRS (slower still), you will see a blue dot. If there is no icon, no data connectivity is available. Seen currently requires a strong 3G signal or Wi-Fi to work reliably.
A: (Android) - To find out your data connection, look at the top bar on your screen. If you are on Wi-Fi, you will see a symbol showing radiating radio waves depending on quality of signal. If you don't see this, then you will be using your carrier for data.
Q: Can I use Seen without a Facebook account?
A: No, but you can easily sign up for a Facebook account using Seen's login page.
Q: How can I get a Facebook account?
A: You can sign up from Seen's login page if you do not have a Facebook account, or sign up directly with Facebook.
Q: Who are the users shown on the homepage?
A: The left-hand side of the list shows all your available friends. The far right-hand side shows a test user for you to call and test out the service.
Q: How do I invite my friends to use Seen?
A: Simply tap on your friend's name in the Friend or Group Lists - if they're not yet using Seen you'll be able to send them an app invite within Facebook to tell them about it. If your friend isn't on Facebook, then you'll need to tap the 'Use Facebook' button and invite them to join.
Q: What do the green, amber and red background colours on the My Friends tab mean?
A: People who are currently using Seen are displayed with a green background or border. Those who have Seen installed but are not currently running it have an amber background. Others who have Seen installed but have disabled the ability to receive calls have a red background.
Q: How do I switch between front and back facing camera on my whilst in a call? (N.B. Only devices which have both cameras can switch)
A: Simply tap on your local video window to switch.
Q: Why doesn't Seen install on my older iPhone/iPod touch or older Android device?
A: Seen requires iOS 4 for many of its features, which currently has some performance issues on older hardware. For Android, version 2.1-update-1 or above is required. Future versions of Seen will be compatible with additional devices.
Q: Does Seen run in the background?
A: Currently Seen does not support iOS 4 multitasking. Therefore it does not run in the background on iOS. On Android, Seen doesn't continue running in the background. This saves battery, whilst allowing you to receive calls via Push Notifications.
Q: Can I install Seen on my Windows Mobile/Symbian/Blackberry handset?
A: Not yet, but please let us know if there is a platform you and your friends would recommend.
Q: Can I dial non-Seen users?
A: No, currently Seen can only call other Seen users.
Q: Can I change the ringtone?
A: Currently Seen only has one available ringtone.
Q: Can I use Seen technology in my iPhone or Android app?
A: Yes! Please see our SDK page for more information.
Q: Do you store my Facebook login details?
A: No. When you log in to Facebook to use Seen, you are directly using the Facebook website. Seen never has access to your Facebook account's email address or password.
Q: Why does Facebook ask permission for Seen to access my account when I'm offline?
A: In order to avoid prompting you to log in to Facebook every time you run the app, Seen requests a permanent access token from Facebook which triggers this alert.
Q: What information do you store about me?
A: Very little. See the Seen End User License Agreement for details about our privacy policy.
Q: How can I limit who can call me?
A: You can specify who's allowed to call you in the Settings tab, found on the lower-right of the screen on iOS or by pressing the Menu button on Android.
Q: When I submit a bug report, what data gets sent?
A: The bug report contains basic logging of the app's activity for its current and previous launch, suitable for understanding any problems in the app's behaviour on your phone.
Q: I can't log in — what should I do?
A: Check that you have working Internet access by trying to load a webpage in the web browser. It is possible that your Wi-Fi has secured an access point that requires you to log in. Otherwise, be sure you have a valid Facebook account. If you still have problems logging in, please try to submit a bug report from the Settings tab.
Q: Why does Seen tell me that "Your carrier does not allow VOIP over 3G"?
A: Unfortunately some mobile operators prohibit VOIP applications on their 3G data network. You will need to find a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Q: I keep getting "Call Rejected" when calling people.
A: This could mean that the person is already on a call, or that they are having problems connecting to the Seen servers. Try again in a few minutes.
Q: Why is my video erratic and the audio stuttering during calls?
A: If your phone has a poor Internet connection, you may experience call quality problems. If you are on 3G, make sure you have 3G enabled with strong reception. If you are on Wi-Fi, consider finding a better access point.
Q: My audio is fine, but the video is jerky - how can I improve it?
A: For the smoothest possible video, make sure you are in a well lit environment. iPhone and iPod cameras capture video less smoothly in low-light conditions.
Q: When I call people, the handset displays "Contacting user" for a long time before connecting the call.
A: This means that the person you're calling isn't currently running the app, and so Seen must alert them via a 'push notification' about the incoming call. If their phone has no Internet access, if the notification is delayed, or if they miss or ignore the alert, then your handset will continue to display "Contacting user" for several minutes before releasing the call.
Q: Why are some of my friends or group members missing?
A: Seen currently displays up to 500 users in any given list, so if you have more than 500 friends or are in a group with more than 500 members, some will be missing.
Q: I cannot get Seen to work, what should I do?
A: First of all, please check that you're running the latest version of the application by running the App Store app on your iPhone or Marketplace on your Android device. If that doesn't help, please send us a bug report of what's happening by tapping the 'Submit Bug Report' on the Settings page (on iOS) or Settings Menu entry (on Android). Please include a clear description of the problem so that we can try to resolve it. If the application crashed on iOS, please also sync your iPhone with iTunes so we may receive the crash report from Apple.
